Nardone Automotive will build you the carbon-bodied 928 of your dreams

Porsche’s fabulous 928 has been out of production for 27 years, believe it or not. But Nardone Automotive out of Milan, Italy is preparing to completely revamp Porsche’s iconic Grand Tourer for the modern era. With a more powerful V8 engine, lightweight carbon fiber bodywork, and plenty of modern design cues, the 928 still looks as futuristic today as it did when it was introduced in 1978. Over 60,000 original 928s were sold across 17 years of production, and each successive model got more impressive. Nardone is attempting to show the world what the 928 could have been if Porsche had continued to develop it. You can kind of think of this concept as the “Singer-ified” version of a 928, as it has been given a thorough re-working of every component, without losing the visual beauty and aesthetic excitement that Porsche baked in.

Nardone says it hopes to have these 928 re-do machines in customer hands sometime around 2024, which is pretty far off yet, but if you want one you’ll have to get in line shortly, because they’ll likely go quickly. The prototype will be available to see in person at the Goodwood Festival of Speed between the 23rd and 26th of June, so if you want to see what yours will look like before you plop down your hard earned cash, just hop a flight to England next week and you can do just that.

The Nardone 928 promises around 400 horsepower from a revamped Porsche V8 engine, run with a modern ECU and modern fuel injection. The original 5-speed transaxle will be swapped out for a 6-speed, and a limited slip differential will be added as standard. The front and rear suspension will be completely revamped to give the 928 even better handling than it was endowed by Porsche, which is impressive to say the least. Obviously this update will also include a larger brake kit, 18-inch forged wheels made to look like the original “manhole cover” wheels, and modern Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires wrapping all of that up. To make the car as effortless to drive quickly as possible, it will also be fitted with active suspension, and electric power steering. It’s a properly modern machine that looks like it’s rooted solidly in the rad era.

On the outside, all of the bodywork will be replaced with carbon fiber, hopefully dropping the weight of the heavy beast by a hundred pounds or so. Inside the passengers will be treated to some plush Foglizzo leather and Alcantara everywhere you look. The original stereo will be replaced with a modern Porsche Classic system, equipped with Apple CarPlay and navigation, as well as modern hi-fi audio. It looks like a properly modern interior but with all of the vintage touches you could ask for. What a neat concept!

There is no word yet on what this thing will cost, but you can expect it to be a pretty penny. If you genuinely want to order one, give Nardone a call. Or head to Goodwood.
